The Russia-Ukraine conflict has escalated despite some hopeful signs that an agreement of some sorts may be on the cards. At the Vatican the Pope has called for an end to the conflict.
Russian missiles hit a large Ukrainian base near the border with NATO member Poland, killing 35 people and wounding 134. Britain said the incident, just 25 km from the Polish border, marked a "significant escalation" of the conflict.
