The Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) and the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) will embark on a protected strike action at all Sibanye-Stillwater’s South African gold operations from this evening over a wage dispute.
The unions have rejected the Sibanye’s final wage increase of R700 and R100 in living allowance annually over three years for underground and surface workers.
In a statement, Sibanye added that the proposed increase is fair as it is on the upper end of South Africa’s inflation target of three-to- six percent. Amcu President Joseph Mathunjwa says workers will only accept a R1000 wage increase.
