Monday saw clashes between South Africans and foreign nationals in Alexandra. A group calling itself the ‘Dudula Movement’ demanded that undocumented foreigners leave the area.
Shops operated by foreign nationals were forced to close.
Some local hawkers also packed up and left.
The Dudula Movement says the action has nothing to do with xenophobia but rather encourages South African businesses to prioritise local workers.
