A community-based joint venture will mine on behalf of Kumba Iron Ore in Kuruman in the Northern Cape. Kumba Iron Ore has awarded the R1.6 billion contract to Mapeo-Andi mining services.
The company says it recognises the complexity of this deal and says it will need to have the necessary expertise and experience to succeed. It’s also acknowledged that historically, not many businesses from previously disadvantaged backgrounds have been awarded contracts of this calibre. And wants to empower other members of the community to benefit from this venture.
