Dr. Anthony Fauci – The U.S. President’s Chief Medical Advisor – says the administration feels very badly about the imposition of travel restrictions on southern Africa in the wake of the identification of the Omicron variant.
Fauci was speaking in an interview with a U.S. cable news network over the weekend where he indicated that they were reviewing the policy on a daily basis. The top U.S. public health official now says they hope to lift the ban within a reasonable amount of time just as at least 15 states in the country now confirm the presence of Omicron in their regions. U.S. officials maintain that there is still no cause for panic in the country despite Omicron now being present in a growing number of states – 17 at last count.
