The Africa CDC and the World Health Organization’s Office for Africa say they will be meeting with health authorities from South Africa and Botswana in the coming days after the discovery of a new COVID-19 variant. Locally – genomic sequencing lab, Kwazulu Natal Research and Innovation Sequencing Platform, have confirmed that the variant B.1.1.529 is circulating in the country.
