What to expect from Africa CDC and WHO's meeting over  B.1.1.529 variant: Dr Mary Stephen

The Africa CDC and the World Health Organization’s Office for Africa say they will be meeting with health authorities from South Africa and Botswana in the coming days after the discovery of a new COVID-19 variant. Locally – genomic sequencing lab, Kwazulu Natal Research and Innovation Sequencing Platform, have confirmed that the variant B.1.1.529 is circulating in the country. The new strain has also been identified in Hong Kong. For more, we are now joined via zoom by Dr Mary Stephen, technical officer for the World Health Organisation Regional Office.
