Substance abuse in Tshwane: Dr Andrew Scheibe

The University of Pretoria’s Community Oriented Substance Use Programme, together with the Drug and Substance Abuse Unit at the City of Tshwane, and the South African Network of People Who Use Drugs held a virtual research symposium focussing on the work done in and around substance use in the City of Tshwane. According to the treatment, demand and harm reduction service data, the number of people, who sought treatment, has increased significantly from January to June of 2021. Alcohol, cannabis, and heroin have been identified as primary substances used by people seeking treatment for problematic use in the City. For more insight on how these challenges manifest, we are now joined by a Researcher in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Pretoria, Dr Andrew Scheibe.
