Over 5 000 people were murdered and over 10 000 raped in South Africa in the last quarter.

The figures reflect startling increases in violent crimes like murder, sexual violence, and hijackings.

These contact crimes increased by 60, 6% compared to the same period last year.

Police Minister Bheki Cele says an increase in crime statistics, is attributed to the impact of the Adjusted Lockdown Levels, and distorted crime trends.
