LGE 2021 I EFF amasses 51,67% votes to secure a historic victory in Robben Island; Godrich Gardee

The Economic Freedom Fighters have described their victory in the local government elections on Robben Island, as ground-breaking and a sign that the party is growing. The EFF scooped 51.67% of the vote, followed by the ANC with 31.67%, and the DA with 8.33%.

The island is significant to South Africa’s history for the political imprisonment of anti-apartheid struggle stalwarts. The voting district was previously dominated by the ANC.

To discuss the significance of this milestone for the party we are now joined by EFF’s head of elections in the Western Cape, Godrich Gardee.

He now joins us via ZOOM.
