The stakes are high in the IEC’s bid to postpone the local government elections. Its legal arguments will be precedent-setting. The commission is approaching the Constitutional Court, asking for an order that the polls be held in February next year. This after a report found that voting under current Covid-19 conditions in October, would not be free and fair but political parties and organisations opposing the application have warned that the apex court doesn’t have the power to delay the elections. eNCA’s Govan Whittles reports.
